Notice.

The creditors of David Davidson, late in Little Vantage, are requested to meet upon Wednesday the 23d curt, at twelve o'clock forenoon, in the house of Mr. Lindsay, Grassmarket, Edinburgh, to give in their claims and confirm the same upon oath and grant discharges upon receiving their dividends.
Those who neglect to attend, will be considered by the other creditors not entitled to any share afterwards, and balance allotted them shall be given to the common debtor.

Public sale of Oak Woods

The Estate of Lochiel.

In the Lochabe District of Inverness-shire

The sale of the Oak Woods now advertised, will take place by Public Roup, with in the Ferry-house of Lochy, near Fort William, on Friday the 12th day of April next, at 12 o'clock noon.

These Woods are wholly situated on the north side of Loch-Lochy, and upon reference as below, will be duly pointed out. They are of full growth, and may generally be mentioned as upwards of 60 years old. The number of old standards among them may be about 1200, squaring from 6 to 15, many of them of large size, and upwards of 100 years old. Between Loch -Lochy and the arm of the sea passing Fort-William and Corpach, the communication by the Caledonian Canal is now open, and it is known that the land communication has been open for years by the Strathlochy line of road.

From the great age, full growth, and excellent quality of the woods, they are in ever way wwell deserving the attention of the Wood-merchants and Ship-builders intending purchasers are requested to inform themselves as to particulars, previous to the day of sale; and by reference to Mr. Hugh Roberston, the overseer and wood-manager, at Achnacarry, by Fort William, all requisite information will be given, and necessary aid afforded for inspecting the wood thus, advertised. Mr. Roberston is also in possession of the conditions of sale.

"" To be sold by public roup, within the Royal Exchange Coffee-house, Edinburgh, upon Tuesday the 26th February next, betwixt the hours of two and three afternoons.

The estate of Gilston, tying in the parishes of Largo, Newburn, and Kilconquhar. This estate contains 1047 acres 2 roods, Scot's measure, or thereby; it is of excellent quality and under the improved system of agriculture; the lands have been drain, subdivided, and in closed. The farm-houses and offices are in good condition, and the farms are let at moderate rents to good tenants, in consequence of which there are no arrears of rent. There is an excellent mansion house built within these few years, with suitable offices and a productive garden, with hot-houses in closed by a proper wall. The teinds are valued and exhausted except a mere trifle.

The rental of this estate is £1950, and the upset price at the sale will be £46,400, which will afford the purchaser four per cent. for his money, allowing a trifling rent for an excellent mansion house, offices, and garden, and deducting the public burdens. Gilston is situated in an excellent neighbourhood, with0in twenty-five miles of Edinburgh, with which there is constant communication by the steam-boats passing to Leith. So desirable an opportunity of investing capital will seldom occur. A purchaser will have access to the old grass in closures in the possession of the proprietor, or they may be let to advantage. The terms of payment of the price will be made to the convenience of the purchaser.

"" On Christmas Day, a respectable family named Gorst, residing near Frodsham, Cheshire, had scraped for their dinner, what they supposed to be horse0 raddish, but which, unhappily, turned out to be wolf’s-bane, they all partook of it, and , shocking to relate, Mrs Horst died in a short time afterwards, and it was with great difficult Mr Gorst and the children were subsequently recovered. An inquest was geld on the body – verdict “Died in consequence of eating the root of aconite or wolf’s bane, which had, by ignorance pr mistake, been scraped instead of horse raddish. ""

At Tewkesbury, in the 96th year of his age, Mr. John Dick, formerly a respectable linen-draper of that borough. Mr Dick was a native of Scotland, and perfectly recollected seeing the march of the rebel army to the fatal plains of Prestonpans in 1745, while he was pursuing the more peaceful occupation of following the plough.

In the month of June 1819,
A large fishing boat was found at Sea, near the Island of Canna, with a Chest on board, containing several articles.
If any person has a Claim to the said boat, and the articles contained in the Chest, they must apply to GEORGE MORISON, Shipmaster, Burntisland ; and if no claim is made within one month from this date, the whole will be to pay salvage and expenses.
